Gulf Coast Orthopedics’ newest addition Orthopedist Dr. Geoffrey Stone is an active contributor in the medical community both locally and nationally. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments from the past year.
Dr. Stone presented a poster presentation researching peri-prosthetic shoulder infections at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons annual conference in Orlando, FL. He also presented a lecture on this same topic during the American Shoulder and Elbow Society specialty day assembly.
He was also an active writer. He was published in November 2015 Clinical Review Articles with his article Distal Humerus Fractures: Open Reduction Internal Fixation.
He co-authored Chapter 8 of the AAOS Instructional Course Lectures vol. 65. It is titled: Biomechanics of Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty: Current Concepts.
His most recent publication came in the ASSH Elbow Trauma Master’s Skills Publication. He co-authored Chapter 16: Distal Humerus Factures-Total Elbow Arthroplasty.
In April, Dr. Stone served a host surgeon for Don Joy Orthopedics. This role allowed Dr. Stone’s surgical technique to be observed by other surgeons while he performed reverse total shoulder arthroplasty surgery. This allows observing surgeons to receive training from an expert in the field in an actual operating room.
In April, he also traveled to the Andrew’s Institute in Florida to teach other orthopedic surgeons how to perform a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty.
In May, Dr. Stone traveled to Illinois to expand his knowledge of new arthroscopic shoulder surgery techniques under the guidance of Dr. Scott Trenhaile in Master’s course. He also attended a limited enrollment opportunity hosted by the Arthroscopy Association of North America. This Shoulder and Elbow Master’s Course was attended and taught by nationally renowned shoulder and elbow surgeons. This course focused on allowing enrolled surgeons to perfect cutting edge arthroscopic skills in shoulder and elbow surgery.
You can often find Dr. Stone speaking on HTV or at various Community Sports Institute events educating the public on the various issues related to the shoulder and elbow.
